I think the greatest thing about Perception is that it is ours and only ours. We are the creators of our perception and we are the controllers.
Amazingly our perception can be so different from our friends when dealing with the exact same situation, each perception leads to separate actions or re-actions.
I work with people to help them change their perceptions on a daily basis; it is truly one of our greatest gifts as human beings, the ability to edit our perception.

A while ago a young man came in to get hypnosis for anxiety; he played drums in a band and had horrible panic attacks before every show. Probably one of the most important observations made by him during our discussion was how differently the rest of his band mates were before each show. They were so excited, so positive...they couldn’t wait to get up on stage and perform! He was so confused....was he not on the right path? He loved playing the drums and being in a band...why was it so different for him than his band mates?
With discussion and an open mind we came to realize that he was coming from a place of fear, his perception around the show was totally based on what the reaction from the crowd was going to be. Would they like the band...what if they diden't, what would he do if this did not work out, there was nothing else that he wanted to do with his life!
This became the automatic reaction for this young man, setting off the body’s natural responses to fear "Fight or Flight", that's how the human mind works, react a certain way in a repeated fashion and the subconscious assumes that it is the best option for you and reacts accordingly.
How different for the other band mates who seemed to be coming with a completely different perception, they just assumed that the crowd was going to love their show, why else would they have purchased tickets? They were so excited to be able to play music for a living...how lucky were they! These thoughts set of a different reaction completely. They released the feel good hormones and chemicals in the body.
With this awareness my client was already half way to defeating and releasing his anxiety and panic attacks.
We all have the ability to change our perception around things in our lives. Do we think about all the things we don't have in life or are we grateful for all the wonderful things we do have? Do we get up each morning feeling excited about our day or dreading the day ahead? It is within our own free will to choose the way we look at and perceive the world around us. What an amazing gift we have!
